About

University of Chester, Geography and Environment under the leadership of Dr Namrata Bhattacharya Mis welcomes you to the webinar Youth as experts in Disaster Risk Reduction:  Rethinking the Education system to support knowledge and awareness for sustainable Disaster Management. Our aim is to highlight the importance of youth as one of the key contributors to the DRR space and how rethinking education systems can help to support that.

We want to reconsider:

  1. Breaking down siloes in the Education system to promote holistic systems thinking and
  2. Redefining concept of ‘expertise’ in Youth participation for DRR

SENDAI Framework highlights the importance of engaging youth as a valued proposition for enriching a sustainable disaster Risk Reduction practice worldwide. The youth can meaningfully support the Disaster management planning, capitalizing on their energy, enthusiasm and engagement with the community at risk. The webinar presents the opportunity to engage with the youth directly and listen to their perspectives from their experience of the current education system. The dialogue will open up discussion around mainstreaming disaster risk reduction in the education system and different activities.
