Hawai'i tsunami education curriculum
Grade 4: Tsunami Unit
This tsunami unit provides an opportunity for high levels of student engagement, and the topic is well-suited for integrating standards across a range of subject areas. The unit culminates in a student-designed community education campaign that offers students valuable practice in synthesizing information and collaborating with others. Sharing with others as an ongoing process of learning and teaching is an important cultural pathway in Hawaiian culture. The essential question for the unit is: How do tsunami waves form and move, and why should we know about them?
Grade 9: Tsunami Unit

Each lesson builds on the previous one and documents from each of the first four lessons lay the foundation for the final assessment in lesson five. The essential question for the unit is: How do we use the tools of science to help us predict the potential impact of a tsunami on our community?
