Report on Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2018: Economic community of West African States, an addendum
An addendum to the biennial report on the Programme of Action for the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 in Africa.
This report presents the progress in the Economic Community of Western Africa States (ECOWAS). ECOWAS is a fifteen-member vibrant community that has continued to deliver on its agenda for strengthening regional integration of its members. With a population over 300 million people and covering an area of 5.1 million square kilometres, the community has continued to fulfil its mandate of promoting economic cooperation, and raising living standards among the population and raising economic strength of the member states. ECOWAS has a number of policy organs and a dedicated commission that drives its functions.
The purpose of this report, in response to the call by the Africa Heads of states and governments, is therefore to report on the progress the ECOWAS member states are making towards achieving the targets of the Programme of Action for the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction in Africa. Thus, the report focuses on the implementation of the seven global SFDRR targets and the additional five Africa specific targets of the PoA by all the members of the ECOWAS.
